The Village Cricket Match

Each year the village organises a cricket match. This takes place at 2.30 p.m on the first Sunday in September at the Recreation Ground.   The cricket match is played between Berrick Prior, one of the four villages, and The Rest of the World.

What this means in practice is that Berrick Prior, with around 20 households, takes on the other three villages. The Rest of the World traditionally bat first and a tea made by the Captains' wives is served during the afternoon.

The whole day is wound up with the presentation of "the man of the match" award. The "man of the match" trophy was presented by Janis Roberts in memory of her husband, Peter, who was a keen supporter of all village activities, and, in particular, of the cricket match.
